Dear Martin, Planning REFUSED! We are delighted that Hampshire County Council (HCC) regulatory committee unanimously agreed to refuse TJ Transports’ planning application to build a sand quarry in Shedfield. Yesterday, the committee listened to deputations from local residents, Shedfield Parish Council, Professor Peter Milla, Ward and County Councillors, all gave different reasons why the application should be refused. But, all agreed there had been a woeful lack of ‘community engagement’ from TJ Transport. This was a material consideration taken into account by the committee, especially given the size of the proposed quarry. TJ Transport sighted Covid as the reason they weren’t able to carry out meaningful ‘community engagement’ and admitted that they should have tried harder! The amount of time and effort that has been put in by the local residents’ group and Shedfield Parish Council has been astonishing. It’s due to their unwavering commitment, dedication and hard work that this application was refused by the HCC committee. The impact that this application would have had on the local community, if it was successful could have been devastating. Not just for local residents, but for local businesses and our children’s health too. We wish to ‘thank you’ for helping with the success of this campaign and having your voice heard in getting this turned down. With best wishes, Councillors’ Vivian Achwal, Jonathan Fern and Anne Small PS we need to remain vigilant as we are expecting the applicant to appeal against the decision, so the fight to stop this quarry from being built isn’t over yet. Do let us know if you wish to help. Whiteley & Shedfield Liberal Democrats http://www.winld.org.uk/ |
