Surface Water

The risk of flooding from surface water can be seen from this map constructed by the environment agency.

Obviously the village is not at risk as would a village by a large river but we do have soils which lead to surface water run off very easily.  So we rely on our ditches for surface water drainage.  These mainly lead to the River Shid (or Shedfield Stream) and onward to the Hamble.

An interesting article by a councillor can be read here which talks about the matter of ditch maintenance in an erudite manner.

Could you please identify the link between the River Shid and the Shedfield Stream. What reference material exists? I am having problems with the Environment Agency’s own maps over this.

    Thanks,

    Alan
