Since our last meeting, some members accompanied by family and friends visited the BBC Good Food and Cake and Bake Shows at Olympia. There were a large variety of stands displaying food and drink with tasting samples in the hope that we would buy their wares. Cooking equipment and utensils were in abundance. Lakeland had a prominent stand and as expected was very busy. There were interviews with different well known chefs, but the highlight of our day were seats in the Theatre to watch Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry demonstrating their baking skills. A good day out and we left with goody bags of free samples. If you ever come across the Polish Bakery Company, try their chocolate and cherry cake, it is out of this world.
The December meeting was our Christmas meal and we were back in the village hall. This year our excellent meal was prepared by Sarah Kerr, who is the owner of Lemon Tree Cookery School in Shirrell Heath. Sarah’s main occupation is cookery classes in her own home but also does some outside catering; she is a local lady and we are prepared to recommend her. Visit her website ‘lemontreecookeryschool.co.uk’. After our meal, three ladies from our group, Chris Denny, Nita Higgins and Sheila Boys entertained us by dressing up, singing songs and reading poetry. A good time was had by all.
Our next year’s programme has been compiled and we have good Speakers, jumble sales, National and County meetings, an evening walk and meal, and day trips, yet to be decided. Subscription for the coming year is £37.50, which is decided by NFWI. This works out at £3.40 per meeting in the hall.
If you would like to join our friendly group, we will be in the hall on January 12th at 7.15pm. Sue will greet you at the door.
