On a lovely sunny Sunday afternoon on 4th October the Parish Tea Party for over 65’s got underway. This is the third party and the group of ladies running it say it will be an annual event. (First Sunday of October, so keep the date free in 2016!)
The first tea party celebrated the Queens Diamond Jubilee, the second coincided with the opening of the Yeoman Room at the Village Hall (now also Ria’s Cafe opening 8 – 6 weekdays and 8 – 12 at weekends).
Funding of the tea party this year was assisted by a grant from the Shedfield Parish Council and the Tea Party Committee hope in future to be able to put this event on free of charge to the over 65’s by fund raising. Jess Bond (Chairman of the Parish Council) gave a vote of thanks to the helpers and to three ladies (Chris Denny, Sheila Boys and Nita Higgins) who entertained the gathering with poems and tales and got everyone singing some of the old songs and joining in with them.
Many of those attending had spent their childhood in either Waltham Chase, Shedfield and Shirrell Heath going to school at Shedfield Primary and they enjoyed chatting with old friends and new over a splendid afternoon tea of sandwiches, home made scones and cakes. Thanks to those who made and donated cakes.
