W.I. May report

May found the members attending the Annual General Meeting and is one of the occasions where we all sing Jerusalem. (Hope the Rotary Members in the next room enjoyed it!)  Members were welcomed and a special welcome given to Pat Wallace, our Advisor.

Normal WI info was given out, followed by a word or two from a representative of the Hampshire Air Ambulance, giving us an update since their last visit.  The main purpose he had been invited was to be given about seven large bags of bras, that WI ladies had donated and our President Jenny had collected from many sources. These are sent to Africa, and are worn by African ladies as it appears that they are safer from sexual abuse when worn.

The AGM business commenced with financial reports together with the President and Secretary’s reports. Three members of the committee stood down, and four of our new members agreed to stand.  Jenny will remain as President, so we are set fair for another year. The members then socialised with cheese, biscuits and wine.

Several members from both Waltham Chase and Shedfield WI’s have been invited to a member’s house to view the live screening of the National AGM held at the Albert Hall.  As this is our centenary year, the Queen and Princess Ann will be there, as will Boris Johnson.  There will also be several Speakers, so we expect to have a really pleasant day.  Thank you to Martin for doing the techi bit.

Future events were confirmed and some members will be having a curry night at Friends in Bishops Waltham:  the Group Quiz in June and also in June a walk in the Bere Forest followed by a meal at the Hunters.   Shedfield WI are having a strawberry tea in July. A visit to Hampton Court has been arranged for July and we have much interest in a visit to the BBC Good Food Show, incorporating the Cake and Bake Show at Olympia in November.  We also continue to have Sunday lunch once a month for single ladies (who wants to cook a roast for one, when the local pubs can do it for you?) and also our monthly darts night at the Wheatsheaf.

Should you wish to join us, we meet at 7.15 in the village hall on the 2nd Tuesday of the month.
