This months meeting saw some members walk the footpaths from Waltham Chase to Sam’s Hotel in Shedfield, where they met up with the less energetic ones for a meal. It was a very social evening spent in the pub’s conservatory. A gift of geramiums were given to the two of the three retiring committee members and they were thanked for their services to our WI.
After every jumble sale we have, the British Heart Foundation collects everything we have not sold and we have been told that our last jumble sale’s leftovers raised £120 for the Foundation. Our jumble sales enable us to make our charitable donations to local causes, and it is gratifying to know that we no longer contribute to landfill, and nothing you, the public, donate is wasted. Our next one is October 18th, so please put it in your diaries.
Two members spent two nights in Leeds attending the WI National AGM. The AGM alternates between different cities, so that as many members as possible have the opportunity to attend an AGM. We will be given a report at our July meeting.
Our single ladies who have a Sunday lunch once a month enjoyed a meal at the Forge and will be having an Indian buffet at Kuti’s in July. We are trying to arrange a visit to the Veolia Recycling Plant in Portsmouth in October, to see just what happens to all the waste we put in our bins. Members will be taking part in the Basket Fayre in Winchester. This consists of filling two baskets with toiletries, wrapping them beautifully and they are sold to the Public for funds for the WI. We also look forward to the October Autumn Meeting in Basingstoke where the speakers will be Michael Portillo and Wolfgang Bopp, Director of Hilliers.
Our next meeting is July 9th and Mrs Appleton will tell us about the ‘Traumas of the Travel Business’. You are more than welcome to join us at the Hall at 7.15.
