W.I. January report

The November meeting was taken by Secretary Bridget Jones, in the absence of the President who was on holiday. The members enjoyed a demonstration of sugar craft by Lynne Pearce who has 24 years of experience. Lynne made sprays of sugar craft flowers which actually looked like the real thing. Members agreed that they would like to do a workshop; it was also decided that the January competition should be ‘the best decorated cake’, using knowledge gained from Lynne.

Our December meeting was a very pleasant evening , as it was our Christmas meal. We have caterers in and they cook a three course Christmas meal in the hall kitchen. There was a bit of a panic when the stove blew a fuse, but we soon found the fuse box. Members had been asked to arrive in long skirts, shawls and hat in the era of ‘Old Time Musical Hall’ Three of our members then entertained us by conducting us in a sing song of old time songs. All in all a very good evening.

Our January meeting was a craft evening, with some of our talented members demonstrating their skills in Ribbon corsages, Tatting, card embossing and notelet booklet creation. We all enjoy these evenings, as it reminds us of what the WI is all about. Learning and friendship. The ‘best decorated cake’ competition was won by Tara Pothecary with Nita Higgins and Sheila Fisher coming a close 2nd and 3rd.

We look forward to the New Year and a full programme of Speakers, meals out, trips to interesting places and good company. Why not join us; our age range is from 40years to 90 years. The subscription this year is £34.50 (the National Federation of WI’s dictate this). We meet on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at the village hall at 7.15pm.
