W.I. January report

A minute’s silence was held in memory of Gwen Gamblin.  Throughout her illness she had always been appreciative of the kindness and support of her friends at WI.  She was a really lovely lady who will be sadly missed.  Our thoughts go out to her family and close friends at this time.

Our January meeting was a ‘craft dabble’ night.  Four tables were set up for people to join in and move around as they wished.  Jan showed us how to make large Dorset Buttons, Jenny indulged us with her small quilting techniques, Elizabeth shared her skill of creating beautiful  Iris Folding cards and fun was had making little boxes out of Christmas cards.  It was a really convivial evening and a good excuse to finish off those bottles from the Christmas party!  A perfect start to the New Year.

And if the word ‘resolution’ is already a thing of the past – WI members were encouraged to choose which campaign they want to see put to the vote at the 2013 NFWI AGM: the choice of resolutions this year being just two 1) decline of our high streets and town centres and 2) resolving to keep young people suicide-safe online.

So coming up:

Tuesday 26th February is our lunch at The Forge.

8th March, there is a day called ‘Inspiring Women’ to be held at Shawford Parish Hall.  You can listen to three inspirational women speak. One talk is about a Victorian lady of some repute, another is from a lady who runs her own business and the third speaker has yet to be arranged.  This will be 10 to 4 with coffee and lunch supplied.

16th March is our Jumble Sale.

19th March is the WI Spring council Meeting @ Portsmouth.

Our next meeting is on Tuesday 12th February at 7.30pm in Waltham Chase Village Hall.

All are warmly welcome.

Hi Your meetings sound interesting and good fun. My friends tell me you are holding a craft fair on Saturday at the Tea Gardens,( I am a member there) and you are looking for more people to sell crafts. I make jewellery and would be delighted to display my craft. I would be happy for you to contact me with the details. Pam
