Some 60 older members of the Parish of Shedfield enjoyed afternoon tea at the Waltham Chase village hall on Sunday 2nd September.
This was organised by the same Committee that ran the Fun Day on the Recreation Ground on 2nd June to celebrate the Queens Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics, Nita Higgins, Sheila Fisher, Katie Shepherd, Ann Gibbon and Bridget Jones led by Diane Portman. It was felt that some of the older members of the parish may not have been able to attend the Fun Day so a traditional afternoon tea was planned.
Margaret Jones welcomed the Mayor and Mayoress of Winchester, Councillor Frank Pearson and Mrs Ann Pearson who enjoyed chatting to everyone and meeting a lot of people they knew as they had lived in the parish some while back.
There were some tasty sandwiches, scones, and wonderful cakes all served on china plates, cups and saucers and the teapots kept flowing.
Whilst tea was served Peter Gamblin played some classic piano tunes and later on Rosemary Hughes and friends entertained everyone with their singing and many of the familiar songs had people singing along.
Sue Rogers put on a display of photos showing the history of the parish and the Mayor presented Betty Daysh with a bouquet of flowers as many of the photos in the collection had been taken by Betty or collected by her and now provide a wonderful history of bygone days.
