Hampshire Genealogical Society
The Waltham Chase branch of the Hampshire Genealogical Society (HGS) meets on the 4th Tuesday of each month at Waltham Chase Village Hall from 7.30pm.
We always welcome new members, so if you are interested in tracing your family history and meeting like-minded people, please do come along to the Group, where you will receive a warm welcome and help with your research.
In June Jill Daniels, accompanied by husband Tom, gave us an interesting insight into the Titanic disaster, concentrating not on the actual sinking, but on the local Southampton people who were part of the ill-fated voyage as either passengers or crew. Excellently illustrated with photographs Jill was able to relate many personal stories of those lost and those who survived, pointing out that many descendants of those onboard still live in the Southampton area. Also illustrated were the many Titanic memorials in Southampton and other countries which show how the lost were commemorated. Jill’s talk was, as usual, full of fascinating information and insight helping us to realise the immensity of this disaster and the very strong family connection with it that remains in Southampton today.
