Flourishing Florists

Waltham Chase Flower Club is doing really well. After facing closure when our long term president, Sue Collyer, said she wanted to stand down, a small committee has kept things together. We were all indebted to Sue for her many years of hard work and it needed several volunteers to cover all the tasks she had done almost single-handed. Thanks to them, we have survived almost a full year and are moving ahead.

There have been one or two changes this year. The main one was bringing our AGM forward to October, when a DIY meeting is planned, rather than have it on the December party day. At the AGM we considered the finances of the club. At present, all is well, but increased costs for good demonstrators and an increase in the hall rent made us have a re-think. For the coming year, starting in January, the subs for members will be £20 each. The entry fee for members when we have demonstrators has been scrapped, as has the charge for teas. To balance this, the entry for non members when we have speakers or demonstrators will be £5 which is less than charged at many Flower Clubs for non-members.

We have a full programme of demonstrations, speakers and DIY afternoons  planned for 2012. There will also be an outing and a meal out. To begin with, Gerald Ponting is booked to talk about ‘The Pride of Madeira’ – the ‘Garden Island’ that is so attractive. This is on January 25th starting at 2 pm in Waltham Chase Village Hall.  Do come – we’re a friendly bunch and are always pleased to welcome new members.
